RESUMO:

Ipanguaçu, located in the Açu Valley region, has as main economy the production of tropical fruits through irrigated agriculture. This city is inserted is a scenario of vulnerability, because the urban nucleus of the municipalities are partially or totally inserted in the flood plain of the river, as a consequence, the floods occur. The population affected by this phenomenon suffers from material losses. Events such as floods can have harmful consequences for economic, social and environmental sectors at various scales. In this context, the objective of this research is to evaluate scenarios in the water balance with insertion of flood risks and land use implications for the municipality of Ipanguaçu / RN, in a geosystemic approach using probabilistic statistics and geoprocessing techniques. For this, the research is structured in four chapters. The first one intends to analyze the seasonality of precipitation, its spatialisation and climatic variability by statistical and geoprocessing techniques. In the second chapter, we intend to identify the land use and occupation pattern of this municipality, since there is a relationship between land use and the consequences of floods. This situation is based on social and environmental considerations and that should be discussed. In chapter three, we will spatialize the water balance to observe the conditions available in the environment and detect your limits that result from natural reserves. Finally, in chapter four, we will map the areas of occurrence of flooding in the municipality to identify its spatial distribution. Initially, at this point, we will demonstrate the results of the first chapter. The methodology used was the Lognormal probability distribution, Gaussen ombrothermal diagram, descriptive statistics and geoprocessing techniques. The results showed that the rains in the municipality are concentrated in the months of February to May and are characterized by high interannual variability. The spatial distribution of precipitation shows a pattern of increase from east to west of the basin with lower values, of the order of 570 mm / year in the extreme east of the municipality and higher values in the extreme west of the municipality, 650 mm / year. Thus, it is necessary to monitor rainfall and create public policies that attend to the consequences generated by the seasonality, spatiality and precipitation intensity.
