TITLE:

VALIDATION OF ADHERE - QUESTIONNAIRE ON BARRIERS AND FACILITATORS FOR ADHERENCE TO PREVENTION AND CONTROL MEASURES OF TRANSMISSIBLE RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS.

KEY WORDS:

Introduction: Worldwide, every year, infectious respiratory diseases cause high health
costs and high rates of morbidity and mortality. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated
this situation. Against this scenario, it is necessary to understand the aspects that
influence the Brazilian population's adherence behavior to combat infectious respiratory
diseases. Objective: To validate the ADHERE questionnaire and to identify barriers and
facilitators of adherence to measures to prevent and control contagious respiratory
infections in the Brazilian population. Methods: Psychometric methodological study
carried out per the recommendations of the COnsensus-based Standards for the
selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN). Construct validity (structural
and convergent) and reliability were assessed. Structural validity was tested through
exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The convergent validity was
verified using Spearman's correlation between the total ADHERE score and the number
of doses of the COVID-19 vaccine received by the participant. Reliability was analyzed
using internal consistency using McDonald's omega (ω) and test-retest using the
intraclass correlation index (ICC). After validation, a sample of Brazilians answered the
final version of the ADHERE questionnaire and questions related to characterization to
identify predictors of population adherence to measures to prevent and control
infectious respiratory diseases. For this purpose, a biserial analysis of the sample
characterization variables was used. Preliminary results: 654 respondents participated
in the study from the five Brazilian regions, ranging in age from 18 to 94 years old, the
majority of whom were female (73.2%), had higher education (52.3%), and resided in
an area urban (93.4%). The EFA reduced the number of items in the questionnaire from
34 to 12 distributed across three dimensions (1st: individual attitudes and behaviors,
2nd: health policies, and 3rd: knowledge about vaccines). The CFA excluded the third
dimension, confirming the final model with two dimensions and 10 items. The first
dimension (6 items) brought together the aspects that involve the individual's attitudes
and behaviors, and the second dimension (4 items) grouped the items related to health
policy actions (aimed at increasing the population's knowledge about respiratory
diseases and how to prevent them). Both (EFA and CFA) showed sample adequacy,
enabling data factorization (KMO>0.70; Bartlett sphericity with p<0.01). Convergent
validity showed statistical significance in a positive and weak correlation between the
ADHERE score and the number of doses received for COVID-19 (r=0.22; p<0.001).
The internal consistency for each dimension was 0.78, and the temporal stability
reflected by the ICC was 0.93 (95%CI: 0.88 - 0.96). Partial conclusions: This
validation stage of the ADHERE questionnaire indicated adequate construct validity
and reliability to assess barriers and facilitators of adherence to measures to prevent and
control infectious respiratory diseases in the Brazilian population. Using the finalversion of the ADHERE questionnaire is also expected to identify the characteristics capable of predicting greater adherence to populational preventive health behavior.
