SUMMARY:

INTRODUCTION: Asthma is considered one of the most common diseases worldwide. About 1-18% of the world population suffers from chronic asthma, negatively influencing the quality of life of patients and their caregivers. As it is considered a public health problem, the treatment of asthma requires a multidimensional approach, including, in addition to medications, strategies that enable the management and control of the disease. An adequate evaluation, associated with a daily monitoring of the symptoms of the disease, can be great allies not only in its control but also in the clinical management and treatment of asthma. Although there are questionnaires to assess asthma control in Brazil, resulting from the validation of versions developed for other countries, there are still some limitations on the part of these questionnaires, especially regarding their structural form, which limits a simple and accurate application, in addition to to hinder their insertion in any environment or context of health care, especially in the Unified Health System (SUS). OBJECTIVE: To validate, for the adult population, the measuring instruments for assessing asthma control (qASMA and dASMA) that make up the electronic system for Assessment Support and Monitoring of Asthma (e-ASMA). METHODS: The present study is linked to the project "Development and validation of an electronic system for the Assessment, Support and Monitoring of Asthma (e-ASTHMA)" approved in the CNPq/MCTI/FNDCT Call No. 18/2021 - UNIVERSAL aiming to support scientific development , technology and innovation in the country. This follows the international recommendations of the Consensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) and comprises 2 phases: (1) adaptation of qASMA and dASMA for the adult population and (2) validation of the adult version of the instruments. The initial adaptation of the questionnaire and diary will start from their respective versions developed for Brazilian adolescents and will start from consensus meetings with the researchers involved in the study. The validation of the adult versions of qASMA and dASMA will follow the following phases: Adaptation of the items; assessment of the items by a panel of experts, a pre-test stage, based on an in-depth interview with 30 adults with asthma, and the test-retest. Reliability will be estimated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient (used to measure internal consistency) and by the intraclass correlation coefficient – ICC (used to measure the stability of measurements obtained in the test-retest). Convergent, divergent and construct validities will be tested, the latter through Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The floor-to-ceiling effect will also be estimated. EXPECTED RESULTS: It is expected that the adaptation of the e-ASMA system for the adult population may offer greater accessibility in the form of assessment of asthma control in adults, favoring a reduction of possible risks regarding the treatment approach, a greater clinical control as well as asthma management for this population. In addition to assisting in the management of public health in Brazil, through its insertion in the Unified Health System (SUS). It is also expected that the adaptation of the e-ASMA system for the adult population can positively impact the clinical decision-making of health professionals, favoring the search for strategies that act directly on the monitoring and management of asthma control, in addition to to help professionals and researchers in the area to use a practical, valid and reliable system, especially for the Brazilian population.
