AREA: Fisioterapia e Terapia Ocupacional
SUMMARY:

Introduction: Stroke commonly has negative motor repercussions in walking function, generating several kinematic changes in gait. Thus, kinematic gait assessment is essential to guide the rehabilitation process. Although three-dimensional assessment methods are the gold standard for this assessment, they are often expensive and require specific environmental settings, making its implementation difficult. Devices based on inertial sensors are an option for this assessment, since they are portable, allowing the assessment of the individual in their own environment and generally have a low cost to manufacture.
Objectives: 1) To develop, test and validate a low-cost portable device that allows the evaluation, in clinical and home environments, of kinematic parameters (spatial-temporal and angular) of the gait of individuals with stroke. 2) To analyze the psychometric properties of the devices, already reported in the literature, developed for kinematic assessment of the gait of individuals with stroke.
Methods: 1) This is an observational study with the stages of device development, testing in healthy individuals and in individuals with stroke, and e assessment of psychometric properties in healthy individuals and individuals with stroke. Healthy individuals and those with stroke (in any stage of the disease), aged between 20 and 70 years, of both genders, will participate in the study. 2) This is a systematic review in which studies of any design that provide information on the psychometric properties of portable devices used in the kinematic assessment of stroke survivors (over 18 years old and at any stage of the disease) will be included.
Expected Results: 1) We hope to develop a portable, low-cost, easy-to-implement device that can be used for outpatient and home-based analysis of gait kinematic parameters in stroke survivors, which will later be made available for commercialization nationwide; and that helps clinicians to analyze the gait of this population, mainly in their natural environment.
