SUMMARY:

Introduction: Health education plays an important role in the social participation of children and adolescents with disabilities, leading to positive results in real-life situations. In this perspective, the educational tool “My Abilities First”, based on health education, valuing social inclusion, and the effective participation of people with disabilities, proposes modeling of positive attitudes, centered on what people with disabilities are capable of doing. Purpose: Implement the educational tool “My Abilities First” and analyze the impact on professionals, children and adolescents with disabilities, and their guardians, involved in public health services. Methodology: The study design will combine elements of a pragmatic essay and a mixed-methods model. The volunteers will be physiotherapists, occupational therapists, children and adolescents with motor disabilities, and their direct guardians, assisted by these professionals. The study will be carried out in a hybrid way (in-person and online) and will involve Specialized Centers in Rehabilitation [Centro Especializado em Reabilitação] - CER) for people with disabilities in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Volunteers will be trained with the “My Abilities First” educational tool; as data collection instruments, the following will be used: (1) sociodemographic questionnaire, (2) semi-structured interviews that will be applied before and after interventions, (3) focus groups (4) instruments to analyze the propensity to change of professionals, and (5) questionnaire of satisfaction for users. Expected results: Description of the study volunteers; training of professionals and users with the educational tool “My Abilities First”; empowerment, in positive attitudes towards health, of people with disabilities and those responsible for them; to compare levels of propensity to change concerning the use of the “My Abilities First” tool and positive language in health, by professionals and users of health services; to learn new knowledge to improve future interventions, functionality and the social participation of people with disabilities.
