SUMMARY:

Introduction: Subacromial Pain Syndrome can compromise the function of the shoulder joint and the quality of life of patients. Although its etiology is not well understood, muscle imbalances and changes in the scapuloumeral synergy can influence the functional prognosis. Objective: To compare the effects of the association of biofeedback therapy by electromyography in an exercise protocol, in subjects with Subacromial Pain Syndrome, evaluating the painful sensation, muscle activation and scapular kinematics. Methods: this is a randomized, blinded trial composed of volunteers of both genders, aged between 35 and 60 years. All will undergo an initial assessment (Av1) comprising: painful sensation, questionnaire of function and pain, range of motion of the shoulder, muscle strength, electromyographic and kinematic activity of the shoulder complex. After the initial evaluation, the volunteers will be randomly divided into two groups: Exercise Group (GE - Therapeutic exercises) and Biofeedback Group (GB - therapeutic exercises using biofeedback by electromyography). The intervention protocol will last eight weeks. After four weeks, the second assessment (AV2), identical to AV1, will be performed, except for the addition of the global change perception questionnaire. At the end of the intervention protocol, the third assessment (AV3), identical to AV2, will be performed. A follow-up will be performed 4 weeks after the end of the intervention protocol, identical to AV3. Statistical Analysis: will be performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0 for Windows, following the principles of analysis by intention to treat. In the descriptive analysis, the mean will be used as a measure of central tendency and the standard deviation as a measure of dispersion. A mixed model ANOVA will be performed for intra and intergroup comparisons. Expected Results: The electromyography biofeedback technique associated with the exercise program can be a viable and low-cost clinical resource in the process of clinical rehabilitation. However, due to the lack of consensus in the literature about its real benefits, it is hoped that this study can contribute to clarifying the effects of this technique in the clinical environment, both for patients and for the professionals involved, highlighting the cost- benefit and functionality.
