SUMMARY:

Introduction: ischemia Preconditioning (IPC) has been used to improve performance acutely, but the effects of IPC on soccer players are still scarce and little is known about its influence on isokinetic evaluation and its chronic effects. Objectives: To analyze whether IPC improves functional and isokinetic performance in college football players in the city of Natal / RN. Methods: University soccer players aged between 18 and 35 years will participate in the study. Volunteers will be randomly allocated to either the IPC group or the placebo group. The IPC group will undergo four cycles with periods of five minutes ischemia (total occlusion pressure of the posterior tibial artery) interspersed with five minutes of reperfusion (occlusion pressure = 0 mmHg). The placebo group will be submitted to the same protocol, but during the ischemia period a minimum pressure (10mmHg) will be applied. The following outcomes will be evaluated as outcomes: muscle function by maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) (peak torque and rate of force development), concentric isokinetic performance of two-speed knee flexors and extensors, 60º / s (five repetitions) and 240 ° / s (30 repetitions) and functional performance by the side hop test, shuttle run test. Expected Results: The results of this study are expected to point to IPC improving functional and isokinetic performance in college football players.
