SUMMARY:

Introduction: subacromial pain syndrome is known as compression of subacromial tissues, mainly due to narrowing in this space. Its etiology is wide, however, muscle imbalances and the correct activation time of these muscles can influence the functional prognosis of these patients. Objective: To evaluate the repercussions of a motor control protocol in patients with subacromial pain syndrome without indication for surgical repair. Methods: This is a randomized, blinded trial consisting of volunteers of both genders, aged 35 to 60 years. All volunteers will undergo pre-assessment (Av1): pain and function, shoulder range of motion, muscle strength, electromyographic and kinematic activity of the shoulder complex. After the initial evaluation, the volunteers will be randomly divided into two groups for the intervention: exercise group (GE - elastic band strengthening exercises) and motor control group (GCM - motor control training). The intervention protocol will last eight weeks. After four weeks, the second assessment (AV2), identical to AV1, will be performed and the global change perception questionnaire will be added. At the end of the intervention protocol will be performed the third evaluation (AV3), identical to AV2. A follow-up will be performed 4 weeks after the end of the intervention protocol, the assessment being AV3. Statistical Analysis: will be performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0 software for Windows, following the principles of intention-to-treat analysis. Descriptive analysis will use the mean as a measure of central tendency and the standard deviation as a measure of dispersion. A mixed model ANOVA will be performed for intra and intergroup comparisons.
