RESUMO:

Introduction: Stroke is the leading cause of disability in adults, resulting in functional changes such as deficit of balance and difficulty in performing activities of daily living. The sequelae result from the plastic changes in the neural tissue of these individuals, as a result of decreased excitability and non-use of the affected limbs after the injury, culminating in the reduction of the cortical representation of these areas. In the field of rehabilitation, Virtual Reality (VR) has been a great ally in the recovery of these patients. Objective: To investigate the influence of a non-immersive virtual reality protocol on body balance of patients with stroke. Methodology: It is a controlled, randomized, blinded trial. They will be included in 30 individuals, of both sexes, with clinical diagnosis of stroke, unilateral brain injury, at least 6 months of injury, age up to 75 years. They will be randomly divided into a control group (CG), who conduct conventional physiotherapy and an experimental group (GE), who perform a conventional physiotherapy associated with balance control in VR with Nitendo Wii® games. The individuals will undergo clinical characterization, cognition (MEEM), spasticity (Ashworth Modified Scale), cerebral activation pattern(Emotiv EPOC®), neurological impairment (National Institute Health Stroke Scale – NIHSS), quality of life (EQVE-AVE), functionality (Functional Independence Measurement - FIM), balance and gait: BERG Equilibrium Scale (EBB); Functional Reach Test (TAF); Timed Up and Go Test (TUG), 6m Walk Test (6mWT), Kinematic gait analysis and static balance tests by Kinovea® software and Force Platform (FP) pressure center variables. These patients will be divided into two groups: the Control Group (CG), who will perform lower limb strengthening (10 minutes) plus a kinesiotherapy protocol with a balance of motion and sensory-motor demand similar to virtual reality exercises (30 minutes ) and the Experimental Group (SG), who will perform the same strengthening (10 minutes) plus a virtual reality protocol based on body balance (30 minutes). There will be 2 sessions per week, total of 10 weeks of intervention. After the training, the patients will make another evaluation in the same standards and protocols of the initial evaluation, besides follow up at 1 and 2 months after the interventions are finished. The ANOVA of repeated measures 2x4 will be performed considering as intergroup factor, the experimental group and the control; and the intragroups, the 4 evaluations to be performed. Expected results: it is hoped to find out how the RV protocol improves postural balance and to analyze the changes promoted in the cortical activation pattern and others variables analyzed of patients with stroke so that there is a direction of the most appropriate therapy for these individuals.
