RESUMO:

Introduction: Osteoporosis is a pathology of great magnitude, due to the complications that can cause, as well as fractures and consequently decreases of independence. The osteoporosis diagnosis it’s given by dual energy X ray absorptiometry (DXA), which is a bulky and expensive model that couldn’t be used in primary health care. The angle of phase (PhA) from bioimpedance (BIA), it has been verified an effective mechanism of screening of some events in the elderly population. However, have little studies about the relation between value of PhA and osteoporosis in community-dwelling older people. Objective: Verify the relation between phase angle and osteoporosis in community-dewlling older people in the city of Natal-RN Methodology: This is a cross-sectional epidemiological study, will be evalueted 200 individuals of both sexes, aged 65 years and over, randomly selected in the city of Natal-RN. We will evaluated anthropometric measures, presence of chronic diseases, life habits, cognitive status and measures of physical performance. PhA will be estimated by the BIA and a bone mineral density will be assessed by DXA. Expected Results: It is expected that there is a relation between osteoporosis and the phase angle, the lower values of phase angle, have a greater probability of having this disease.
