RESUMO:

Sports overhead and throwing movements impose great overload on the shoulder complex mainly due to repetition of these movements at a high speed. When performed over several years, bone, muscular and capsular adaptations can be generated in the athlete's shoulder, which may increase the risk of developing injury. In addition to local changes, the influence of kinetic chain changes as a risk factor for shoulder complex injury has been considered. The aim of this research is to evaluate the biomechanical factors of the shoulder complex, core and hip and their functional aspects related to adaptations in glenohumeral, scapular kinematics, pain and shoulder injuries in overhead athletes. This is a cross-sectional observational study conducted at the Physiotherapy Department of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. Participating in the study will be 80 individuals practicing overhead sports (handball, volleyball, tennis, basketball), between 18 and 40 years old, who will be evaluated for shoulder, hip and trunk ROM, strength of periscapular, glenohumeral, hip and trunk muscles, functional aspects of upper and lower limbs and core, as well as the scapular kinematics. The data will be analyzed statistically in a descriptive and inferential way. In order to verify the relationship between the study variables, correlation tests will be used and the association between risk factors and shoulder injury will be performed through a multivariate logistic regression analysis. The results of this study will provide knowledge about the variables that may be involved in the development of shoulder injury and guide the process of evaluation and decision making in clinical practice and preventive intervention in sports physiotherapy.
