RESUMO:

Introduction: In the pediatric asthmatic population, validated instruments for assessing health-related quality of life (HRQoL) are scarce and scarcely available in languages other than English. Objective: To perform a translataion, cross-cultural adaptation and evaluation of psychometric indicators of the PedsQLTM Asthma Module - Short Form 22 for Brazilian children and adolescents with asthma. Methods: Exploratory methodological study carried out in two phases (Linguistic Validation and Analysis of Psychometric Indicators) whose planning and execution of the steps followed the methodological guidelines established by the Mapi Research Institute and the international protocols commonly used. The sample consisted of 204 participants. The Brazilian version was applied in 91 patients with asthma (5 to 18 years old), as well as in their parents/guardians and parents / guardians of asthma patients aged 2 to 4 years, totaling 113 parents / guardians. For that, the socioeconomic condition evaluation (ABEP) was performed; evaluation of clinical control, through the Childhood Asthma Control Test (c-ACT), Asthma Control Test (ACT); quality of life, through the Pediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (PAQLQ) and pulmonary function test (spirometry). The validity of content, construct and reliability were investigated. Results: The agreement analysis performed by the multiprofessional expert committee observed that all the items in the questionnaire were clear and compressible (concordance ranging from 0.78 to 1.00). Likewise, during the pre-test procedure (n=57), no participants presented comprehension difficulties (agreement above 0.90). Cronbach's alpha values were between 0.61 and 0.87 for the asthma and treatment dimensions of all versions, demonstrating adequate internal consistency. The construct validity was analyzed by known groups technique, based on the control of asthma according to GINA classification. It was observed that in the version intended for patients, those with controlled asthma reported significantly higher HRQoL scores than those with uncontrolled asthma in the asthma dimension and in versions intended for parents/guardians. This significance was observed among patients with partially controlled asthma and asthma uncontrolled. Conclusion: The Brazilian short version of the PedsQLTM Asthma Module has been translated and adapted transculturally for the pediatric population. This has been shown to be able to provide valid and reliable measures in the assessment of HRQOL children and adolescents with asthma.
