RESUMO:

Contextualization: An evaluation of oxygen consumption kinetics (VO2) can elucidate issues related to low physical fitness in obese patients. Most of daily activities and work related are performed on submaximas stages of exercise and are have various energetic transitions, how to get out of resting condition to a moderate or vigorous activity in short and repeated times, using different substrates. The ability to change transition from rest to activity, increase in exercise intensity or even stop exercise to rest, involves a hight coordination of cardiovascular, respiratory and neuromuscular systems. Oxygen kinetics provides an adequate approximation of VO2 transport and utilization processes in muscle. Thus, it was raised the question whether there is a slowing in oxygen kinetics in obese individuals, considering that there are no published studies addressing temporal behavior of VO2 in obese adults Objective: Analyze and compare VO2 kinetics in eutrophic and obese women in different ergometers and test loads. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional observational study, in which obese and non-obese women were evaluated. Volunteers underwent clinical-physical assessment, lung function test, sleep disorders assessment (Epworth Sleepness Scale, Stanford Sleepness Scale, Stanford Snoring Scale), self-perceived fatigue (Fatigue Severity Scale), Manual Grip Strength (Jamar® Dynamometer), evaluation of exercise capacity and VO2 kinetics through Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test (CPX) and Constant Load Test (CLT), with measurements of gas expired trough CORTEX Metamax 3B On treadmill or bike. A group distribution by ergometer was performed by randomization. Four groups were formed: non-obese evaluated in treadmill (NOT), non-obese in bike (NOB), obese in treadmill (OBT) and obese in bike (OBB). Preliminary results: Were evaluated 142 volunteers, being 100 obese and 42 non-obese. Of this total, 72 volunteers were not included in inclusion criteria, resulting in a final sample of 60 women (15 OBT, 15 OBB, 15 NOT, 15 NOB). Sample was homogeneous in terms of age and height, and as obese had higher values for all anthropometric measures of adiposity. Pulmonary function, manual gripping force and self-perceived fatigue scale score were similar between groups. CPX test was performed by all volunteers. Obese women presented lower VO2/Kgpeak and HRMax in two ergometric tests. VO2/Kgpeak obtained in bike tests, for obese and non-obese, was significantly lower to those obtained in treadmill tests.
