RESUMO:

Background: The intensity is a categorical variable of a muscle lengthening protocol that is been poorly studied due to its characteristic of being inherent to the individual being stretched. However, it is pointed as an important factor for the gain of ROM. Objectives: To verify the effects of different intensities of static passive stretching on flexibility, neuromuscular and functional performance in soccer athletes. Methods: This is a blinded randomized controlled trial, composed of male subjects, soccer athletes, randomly divided into 4 groups: Control Group (GC), Experimental Group 1 (GE1), Experimental Group 2 (GE2) and Experimental Group 3 (GE3). Initially, the subjects will be submitted to evaluation measurements of flexibility (passive and active), neuromuscular performance (muscle passive torque, electromyography activity), and functional performance (vertical jump and shuttle run test) of non-dominant lower limb, performed before and immediately after the first session and 48h after the last session. GC will only be submitted for initial evaluation and final re-evaluation. The experimental groups will undergo a static passive stretching protocol containing 10 sessions, divided into 3 sessions per week, with 3 maneuvers of 30 seconds, but with different intensities (Tolerable Maximum Pain, Maximum Painless Discomfort, and Stress Sensation without Discomfort) established from a PERFLEX-modified visual scale. Expected Outcomes: It is expected that the groups with higher static passive stretching intensities (Tolerable Maximum Pain and Maximum Painless Discomfort) present greater gains in flexibility, without altering any passive muscle torque, electromyography activity and functional performance, while the intensity of Stretching Sensation without Discomfort (in a comfort zone) provides a greater decrease of muscle passive torque, with no significant change of flexibility in soccer athletes. This study may contribute to the clinical practice of health professionals, since it seeks to improve the elaboration of the clinical prescription of passive static stretching protocols (whether performed by the individual or not), establishing optimal levels of intensity for a given muscle group.
