RESUMO:

Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has significant systemic consequences, such as skeletal muscle dysfunction, which predisposes to early fatigue. This muscle fatigue can be one of the main reasons for the incapacity in patients with COPD, decreasing the performance in activities of daily living, work and health-related quality of life. Objective: To analyze peripheral muscular fatigability in patients with COPD and to compare it to healthy individuals after isokinetic exercise; As well as to verify the changes of systemic biomarkers for muscular fatigue in the same population. Methodology: This is a descriptive, analytical and cross-sectional study, in which subjects of both sexes, aged between 45 and 80 years diagnosed with COPD and healthy individuals of the same age group were included. The research was developed in two days. On the first day the isokinetic performance of the femoral quadriceps as well as ischiostibial (peak torque, work, power and fatigue index) were evaluated. On the first day, the blood biomarkers (creatine kinase-CK, lactate dehydrogenase enzyme and lactate levels) were measured, baseline and after isokinetic exercise, as well as subjective pain analysis (VAS), subjective perception Of effort for dyspnea and for lower limbs (modified BORG scale) and fatigue (fatigue scale). On the second day, 24 hours after the initial evaluation, blood biomarkers, EVA, BORG scales and fatigue were reassessed. Statistical analysis: The data were expressed through measures of central tendency and dispersion analyzed in the statistical package SPSS 20.0. Expected Results: The results of this study will help understand the behavior of the systemic biomarkers for muscle fatigue in patients with COPD in relation to the healthy public. It is hoped to improve the management of patients with COPD, thus improving their quality of life.
