RESUMO:

INTRODUCTION: Non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs) are characterized as very prevalent health problems in the world today. With all the physiological changes of aging, the elderly become more vulnerable to experiencing these conditions. Among the most well-known are Diabetes Mellitus and Fragility Syndrome of the Elderly (SF), who are concerned about the magnitude of their consequences. OBJECTIVE: To relate the profiles of fragility ( "non-fragile", "pre-fragile" and "fragile") to sociodemographic, clinical-functional and psycho-cognitive variables of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is an observational, cross-sectional, observational study. This will be carried out at the Advanced Nucleus of Research and Technological Innovation in Health (NAPS) of the University Hospital Onofre Lopes (HUOL) and will be constituted of elderly people from the Endocrinology and Geriatrics sectors of said hospital diagnosed with DM2. The sample will be given for convenience after the sample calculation. The elderly will be at the NAPS at a previously scheduled date and time and will be evaluated. After the selection of the sample, an interview will be conducted containing personal, socio-demographic, clinical-functional, psycho-cognitive data (Mental State Mini Exam and Geriatric Depression Scale), fragility phenotype (unintentional weight loss, low Level of physical activity, exhaustion, muscle weakness and gait speed) and functional independence (WHODAS 2.0). For the analysis of the data will be used the descriptive statistics of the absolute and relative frequencies for obtained data and the inferential analysis. EXPECTED RESULTS: SF is expected to be more frequent in women, older individuals, illiterate, without marital life, low income, low weight or obesity, diabetes, depressive symptoms, functional disability and cognitive deficit. It is also expected that the characteristics of the Fragility Phenotype are related to the presence of DM2 in the elderly evaluated and that the fragility phenotype criteria are altered in diabetic elderly individuals and that pre-fragility is the most present characteristic in the sample.
