Association between respiratory disease and climacteric result of national health research, 2013
Climacteric, respiratory diseases, prevalence.
Introduction: Climacteric is a stage of woman’s life that begins around the age of forty, when occurs a decrease of hormones’ production by the ovaries, known as estrogen deprivation. This hormonal change can cause a number of symptoms physical, psychological, somatic, vasomotor and urogenital. Recently, some international researchers have investigated the association of female sex hormones with respiratory diseases, but in Brazil, there is no data in this regard. Objective: To investigate the prevalence of respiratory diseases in Brazilian climacteric women. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, population-based study, which used data from the National Health Survey carried out in 2013 by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. Data were collected from 64,348 households and 205,546 people were interviewed and 60,202 residents responded to the individual questionnaire. Preliminary results: For this sample were included data women aged between 40 to 65, totaling 30.667 records of climacteric women. The average age of the sample was of 50.95 years (± 7.25). Of these, 47.59% are considered brown; most of them (63.44%) live with a spouse or partner; 26.71% have completed high school and 70.69% do not have health insurance.
