RESUMO:

Objective: Investigating the epidemiological profile of individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD) according to measures grouped according to the conceptual framework of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study which evaluated 78 subjects with PD, being residents of Natal, RN. Sociodemographic information, clinical data and data related to physical and mental performance were collected through 14 instruments, categorized among the domains "Structure and bodily function," "activity" and "participation." For the domain "structure and body function," the Hoehn & Yahr Disability Scale (HY), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) motor and handgrip strength domain tests, Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS – 15) and Falls Efficacy Scale – Brasil (FES – Brasil) were used. For the “Activity” domain, the Nine Hole Peg Test (9HPT), activity of daily living domain of the UPDRS, Freezing of Gait Questionnaire (FOGQ), MiniBESTest, Timed and Up Go Test (TUG), Human Activity Profile (HAP), 10 Meter Walk Test (10MWT) and Five Times Sit to Stand (STDP – 5X) were used. For the “Participation” domain, the Parkinson Disease Quality of Life Questionnaire (PDQ – 39) was used. All participants were evaluated during the ON time of anti-Parkinson medication. The normality of the data was verified by the Shapiro-Wilk test and the variables are presented as mean, standard deviation and frequency (absolute and relative) using SPSS version 21.0. Results: More than half of the sample (64.1%) were men, with a higher prevalence in the age group between 70 and 79 years (35.9%). Regarding the number of comorbidities associated with PD, 52 (66.7%) reported having ³ 4, and among the three most cited are: visual impairment (87.2%), fecal (61.5%) and systemic arterial hypertension (47.4%). Stage 3 of HY was the most frequent (29.5%) and MoCA identified dementia in 64.1%. Depression symptoms were present in 52.6%. High values were found in FES - I (30.9 ± 11.3 - points), 9HPT (42.1 ± 25.1 - seconds), TUG (14.7 ± 4.6 seconds) and STDP – 5X (16.4 ± 4.6 - seconds) while MiniBESTest (16.2  ± 8.6 - points) and PDQ – 39 (32.2 ± 17.1 - %) showed lower values. Conclusion: The sample proved to be predominantly male, older adults with dementia and depression symptoms present. The values shown indicate deficits in digital dexterity, balance, high risk of falls and low self-perception of quality of life. Knowledge of the clinical and functional characteristics of the population with PD may allow physiotherapists and the health team a better understanding toward the prognosis of the disease and consequently be able to plan more appropriate therapeutic approaches to the actual demands presented by these patients.
