SUMMARY:

Visual illusions can be defined as a dissociation of the physical properties of a visual stimulus that generates an altered or bistable perception. In this area of illusions, the Motion Quartet (MQT) is a well-studied paradigm characterized by generating an illusory movement in cardinal directions: vertical and horizontal. However, there is still no evidence about the display of this stimulus in different regions of the visual field or after the replacement of its constituent elements by Gabor plates during electroencephalography (EEG) recording. Thus, this project aims to characterize the inter and intra-hemispheric connectivity of the visual cortex in healthy individuals. 90 healthy volunteers will be recruited for the study, where they will go through the following steps: pre-assessment, screening and experiment with EEG while performing the MQT task. After registration, the interhemispheric connectivity will be evaluated using computational metrics and their relationship with the behavioral response of each volunteer. The results of this project will help to understand the electrophysiological mechanisms of the visualization of a visual illusion generated by MQT in different spatial regions and during the modification of its constituent elements, and consequently, will be able to establish a baseline of this phenomenon in a sample of healthy volunteers.
