SUMMARY:

Studies have been published on how much scientific research can be replicated with reliability and generate results similar to those found initially. The veracity of scientific research is being questioned, with the increasing occurrence of retractions due to errors, omission of data, and even manipulations, raising doubts regarding the real factors that interfere with reproducibility and replicability. The emphasis on publishing positive results instead of any results, the statistical inferences of the researchers, the degree of freedom of the study and the variability both methodological and in the factors not evidenced in the methods section, can be considered possible causes in the difficulty of consistency results. Regarding the last cause, housing conditions such as photoperiod, temperature, sound from the laboratory environment, population density and human handling are factors that vary between laboratories and may affect the results of the studies. Methodological adjustments in the environment where the animal is kept and in the experimental environment can be the cause of the great variability between laboratories around the world, in addition to the genetic background of the animals that are used. Thus, the purpose of this study is to evaluate abiotic aspects of maintaining animals of different strains, in order to verify the effects of the maintenance environment and the genetic background on behavioral responses using zebrafish as an animal model.
