SUMMARY:

Understanding the spatial choices by animals in their natural environment is important to deal with management and conservation challenges, especially for endangered species, such as the blond capuchin monkey (Sapajus flavius). The individual's use of space is a response variable mainly affected by the availability of food and the risk of predation, so that the animal can, according to the seasonality of the environment in which it lives, avoid certain places and make greater use of others. Spatial cohesion between individuals in the group and behavioral records provide information about the type of competition that animals are facing, and how the seasonality of food resources and climate variables have an effect on that competition. In this work we test the hypotheses that, in seasons of food shortage, 1), the areas used by the animals will be larger and 2) the animals will be more willing to risk, making more frequent use of border areas; 3) the group will be less cohesive. The study is carried out in an Atlantic Forest fragment located in Caaporã, Paraíba, where a group of 120 capuchin monkeys is habituated to human presence. Through the methods of focal observation and scanning, we will collect data on location points, number of neighbors, food productivity and the average maximum temperature of the environment. It is hoped that the results of the study can collaborate with conservation and management actions of the species through the publication of two scientific articles.
