SUMMARY:

Overconfidence is one of the manifestations of metaignorance, the ignorance about oneself. Individuals do not know the limits on how much they know - or do not know - and end up exhibiting an unjustified confidence about their own actions, and incorrectly evaluating their own performance and, consequently, the performance of others. The objective of this research is to expand the overconfidence analyzes and its display in the own and others performance levels, both in absolute and comparative values. To this end, we will use political knowledge as factors of analysis and reference, including knowledge about the political system as a whole and the current national political situation, since we believe it is a relevant topic for the general population. The division of overconfidence in its subcategories (overestimation, overplacement and overprecision), the application of political knowledge questionnaires, as well as the use of a self-criticism scale, allow us to examine the overconfidence displayed by the participants and their correlation with their performance.
