RESUMO:

Reproductive behavior is the result of morphological and physiological mechanisms that shape different sexual strategies and degrees of parental investment throughout the evolutionary history of the human species. It is a complex network of variables that goes beyond biological aspects, involving social aspects such as religion, culture, economy among many others. The theory of sexual strategies proposed by evolutionary psychologists has shown that the pressures exerted by evolution for both sexes occurred in unique and distinct ways, due to different evolutionary issues and problems presented in the ancestral environment for the sexes repeatedly within these strategies. There are a set of individual characteristics that are desirable to be found in a potential partner. This research project focuses on comprehensively understanding how some individual characteristics of an individual may influence age preference in choosing romantic partners, so it will be possible to understand and broaden the discussion about the pattern of age preferences and patterns, by choosing whether patterns reflect or refute pre-established social norms, gender roles, socioeconomic status, and educational attainment. This information will provide the basis for the development of other studies that take into account the age of the partner, as well as for promoting subjective well-being in these relationships. In men and women, gender, age, educational level, and economic power are expected to influence the minimum and maximum acceptable age and ideal age preference patterns for mating partners.
