RESUMO:

Personality can be defined as the set of behaviors that an individual presents, being these stable over time and / or situations. Several studies indicate that the personality influences the performance of the animal, allowing for the correct selection of individuals, saving resources, as well as promoting a safe management environment and guarantee the welfare of domestic animals and production. Horses are used in various activities such as leisure and jumping competitions. Horse personality studies show mainly traits such as fear, gregariousness, locomotor activity, sensory sensitivity and reactivity to humans, but generally the methodologies used are not very objective. Due to this, the focus of this work is to diminish the subjectivity of the personality analysis of the horses, through different methodologies and associating animal personality to the sport performance in jumping. There will be seven behavioral tests (arena, new object, human reactivity, sonorous, moving ball, bridge and sociability), questionnaire, stall observations to verify the presence of stereotypies, observations in training and competitions, to define performance. It will be used 43 animals housed of two places, one in Nova Parnamirim (Natal, RN) and one in Portal do Sol (João Pessoa, PB). It is expected to validate the different methods through correlation in similar traits and tested the hypothesis that differences in personality will result in differences in sports performance, with some traits such as high neuroticism indices and low indices of reactivity to social isolation, will be positively related to the performance of the animal in competitions.
