RESUMO:

Alcohol (ethanol or ethyl alcohol) by far the most widely used licit drug of abuse in the world. Overuse of this substance can  cause alcoholism, one of the most devastating diseases among those related to drugs of abuse. The effects of enhanced moderate alcohol use are the result of it’s interaction with neurotransmitter systems such as dopamine (DA), serotonin, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), glutamate, and  it’s action in the neurotransmitter reuptake systems as  adenosine.  However, some individuals are more sensitive to alcohol, while others are more resistant. These differences in response to alcohol are related to ethanol metabolism, genetics, and environmental / social pressures. Determining the relationship between the behavioral profile and the use of alcohol is difficult, since both the behavioral and physiological analyzes of the individual must be taken into account. In this regard, the zebrafish has become a promising experimental model in researches an alcohol and individual differences, since it has classic  vertebrates neurotransmitters being thus an experimental animal model translational relevance for behavioral and neurochemical studies. In this sense, this work will evaluate through behavioral and biochemical tests,  if individual differences established early in life can be predictive of the effects of alcohol consumption.
