RESUMO:

It is a constant concern of all educational institutions at all levels to understand the mechanisms involved in the Teaching-Learning processes (Mokhtar-Noriega et al, 2016), mainly in the psychobiological interactions  contexts applied. Understanding that attention is a process of selective response to a stimulus or variety of stimuli, and crucial for effective learning, the present research proposes that the autonomic activity does not play a specific role in the learning, but represents a physiological state that guarantees the efficiency of cognitive processes, of learning and also of emotional responses. Thus, we consider that Heart Rate Variability (HRV) as a measure of autonomic response may be an indicator that can be used objectively to evaluate sustained and indirectly a measure of the efficiency of the teaching and learning process. Thus, this study aims to test the theoretical hypothesis that the autonomic response measured by HRV corresponds the time of sustained attention during the learning process in students in the classroom and how this attention can be modulated by personality, emotion and chronotype. The specific objectives of this study is: 1) to describe HRV in time, frequency and nonlinear indexes of the time of sustained attention during a class in university students; 2) to identify the relationship between time, frequency and non-linear domains of HRV and personality, emotion and chronotype in university students.
