RESUMO:

Alcohol is a licit drug of great social acceptance and the impacts of its excessive consumption have been a concern in the last decades. One of the main damages associated with the use of alcoholic beverages is the consumption by pregnant women. Exposure to alcohol during the prenatal phase compromises placental function and fetal development, which may lead to fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), responsible for morphological, sensory and cognitive changes. Many studies have sought to identify the mechanisms of action of this substance at the cellular level and, due to limitations in studies with humans, many types of research use alternative animal models, such as the zebrafish (Danio rerio). Although recent studies have explored the zebrafish as a model for alcoholic exposure during development, these studies are mainly focused on malformation and embryonic morphological deformations, and there is a gap in the knowledge of possible cognitive deficits in individuals who do not present visible physical alterations. Therefore, the main objective of this project is to investigate if the regime of exposure to alcohol during the embryonic development phase causes long-term behavioral and cognitive neurophysiological changes in zebrafish. For this, larvae and adults from zebrafish received low and medium doses of alcohol (0.25% and 0.5%), and were subsequently submitted to different behavioral tasks - Open field test, Place preference, Inhibitory avoidance, and Facial validation. Preliminary results indicate that behavioral changes caused by the drug are similar in larvae and adults of zebrafish. It is expected to soon compare responses of the larvae that were submitted to alcohol at the beginning of their development also in the adult phase, and also to obtain analyzes of neuronal changes resulting from this premature exposure.
