RESUMO:

Several researches on the intersexual differences of human sexual strategies and mate choice criteria have been made over the last decades, resulting in empirical data supporting the multiple theories that have tried to explain the evolution of human sexual behavior, such as Sexual Strategies Theory (Buss & Schmitt, 1993), Strategic Pluralism Theory (Gangestad & Simpson, 2000) and Biological Market Theory (Noë & Hammerstein, 1995). In general these studies have focused on heterosexual individuals once that the hypotheses and predictions of the explanatory theories of sexual strategies focus on their consequences in terms of reproductive success. Though many recent researches have been performed with samples of homosexual individuals, the transgender phenomenon remains absent from investigations on human sexual strategies. The present research project aims to investigate sexual strategies and mate choice criteria among 64 transgender individuals and compare the obtained data to those gathered from 64 cisgender individuals through a cross-sectional exploratory-descriptive study. The objective is contributing to the expanding of evolutionary theories on sexual strategies through the study of a yet uninvestigated population. Based on the current theories, it is predicted that transgender individuals from each sex will adopt sexual strategies and mate choice criteria similar to those adopted by cisgender individuals from the opposite sex.
