RESUMO:

Food neophobia is a behavior in which the individual avoid unfamiliar foods, which can directly influence his eating habits. Diet is one of the most important environmental factors in the development of obesity. This disease is characterized by the excessive accumulation of adipose tissue, which has been growing and becoming a serious public health problem. The treatment of obesity can be through changes in lifestyle, which includes changes in eating habits and practice of physical exercises, and through drug therapy and surgical treatment. Bariatric surgery has shown positive results for patients with morbid obesity, but this procedure can cause significant behavioral changes, especially in the eating behavior area. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the food neophobia of obese patients submitted to bariatric surgery, validating the instrument of implicit test of this behavior, as well as to identify the relationship between explicit and implicit neophobia, with self-esteem, body perception, diet and weight loss after surgery. This research is composed of 3 studies. In study 1, a cross-sectional study was conducted with adult individuals of both sexes, applying the Food Neophobia Scale (FNS) and the Implicit Association Test (IAT). For studies 2 and 3, a prospective, longitudinal-cut type study is being conducted with adult individuals of both sexes, submitted to gastroplasty at the Onofre Lopes University Hospital, Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. Three moments of data collection are performed: preoperative, 3 months and 6 months after surgery. Food neophobia is being evaluated with the FNS and IAT for food neophobia. Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scales and Body Perception Scales are also being applied. In addition, sociodemographic, clinical, diet and anthropometric data are also being collected.
