RESUMO:

Infertility is a condition that affects approximately 15% to 25% of couples who wish to become pregnant. Reproduction to be successful depends on the precise timing between neuroendocrine and behavioral factors, as well as optimal physiological and environmental conditions. Studies show the physiological correlation between stress and reproductive parameters, and its negative influence on the probability of reaching a pregnancy. The subject's abilities to respond adequately to each stressor depend on other characteristics, his coping style, and adequate social support. In order to examine the impact of infertility-related stress, the use of the dyad as a unit of analysis becomes important, since although they cope with such a stressor independently, the couple constitutes an interdependent di- agnostic unit. The psychological symptoms of infertility are complex and influenced by a number of factors, such as gender differences, causes and duration of infertility, specific stage of research and treatment, as well as the ability to adapt to the problem and the motivation to have children. Currently, there is a progressive increase in the need to use assisted reproductive technologies, either of high or low complexity, and therefore the purpose of this study is to evaluate how the psychophysiological profile modulates the outcome of treatment in couples who undergo to the in vitro fertilization procedure.
