SUMMARY:
Can we identify points of convergence between the oppressions of class, race and gender? Based on the intersectional studies of Brazilian philosopher Lélia Gonzalez, we seek to analyse triple oppression, a reinterpretation of the concept of triple discrimination proposed by the thinker. Our aim is to analyse the connections between these three oppressions, while at the same time uncovering the essence of this complex phenomenon. In our view, the concept points to a strategy that prevents us from overcoming the structures of the capitalist system: the naturalisation of oppressions through the establishment of an abstract universal rationalism. We base our investigation on his work Springtime for the Black Roses, a compilation of articles covering writings from the 1970s to the 1990s. Using an analytical approach, we seek not only to explain and interpret the author's theses, but also to establish dialogues with other feminist, Marxian and decolonial thinkers, opting for a tripartite structure of chapters to capture the intertwining of class (chapter 1), race (chapter 2) and gender (chapter 3). To do this, we first discuss the process of marginalisation of black bodies, as one of the most exploited commodities for primitive accumulation in territories with unequal and combined development; then we show how the myth of racial democracy has been used to mask over-exploitation and create the "natural place" of black people; Finally, we highlight how the myth of racial democracy has been used to create the "natural place" of black people.
