SUMMARY:

Parabolic dunes occur usually in coastal environments of tropical zones, and consist an important
role in the ecological succession of coastal fauna and flora, composing habitat for certain species.
A simple model for parabolic dunes internal strata and its correlation with geomorphologic
features is proposed. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and altimetric data were acquired in
crossline and inline directions in two dune fields in northeast Brazil: Rio do Fogo/RN and São
Bento do Norte/RN. PETREL environment was used for the 2D data interpretation, with
geophysical attributes application. Five radar facies were interpreted and delimitation of four
bounding surfaces was seen, in the hierarchy order: deflation, inundation, superposition, and
reactivation. A conceptual model of parabolic dunes is proposed for depositional lobe, trailing
arms, back ridges, trailing ridges, and deflation basin.
