SUMMARY:

Geodiversity is a recent term academically, gaining notoriety mainly from the 1990 onwards, as a result of its youth it presents several concepts considering as the most complete in this work the concept established in Gray (2013, p. 12) “the natural range (diversity) of geological (rocks, minerals, fossils), geomorphological (landforms, topography, physical processes), soil and hydrological features. It includes their assemblages, structures, systems and contributions to landscapes”. In its natural path of development, geodiversity with a conservationist bias ran into the obstacle of the impossibility of broad conservation, due to socioeconomic interests. Due to various values inherent to geodiversity (scientific, aesthetic, cultural, economic, touristic value, among others), the notion of heritage was included in the discourse, geoheritage (geoheritage) establishes several methods for the selection of sites of greater geological and geomorphological interest, for a geoconservation or geotourism proposal. Geopatrimony is subdivided into some branches, with a specific focus on some areas, with regard to geomorphology, the area that aims to study its relief forms is the geomorphological heritage/geomorphopatrimony. This text aims to carry out the identification, inventory and quantification of places of interest in the Geomorphodiversity of the municipalities of Porto do Mangue and Macau – RN. Aiming to establish the bases for the selection of geosites with the greatest potential for preservation/conservation proposals. The work was developed based on Araújo's (2021) methodology, which considers as geosites, sites that have a high scientific value or high aesthetic value, with a high score in the other values denoting a site of geodiversity. So far, steps of theoretical framework, methodology, natural history and inventory of two sites have been carried out. However, in the field activity, the necessary forms and materials were filled in for the completion of the inventory and quantification, with the other steps to be carried out corresponding to the completion of the inventory chapter, the writing of the chapter on quantification and finally the mappings.
