RESUMO:

The mangrove provides a series of ecosystem services necessary for maintaining the human communities that inhabit the surroundings of these environments. For many communities living on the coast take their livelihood from the mangroves through artisanal fishing and subsistence. The research is based on two study areas for comparison between two mangrove areas in estuaries that present different physical and social conditions and, consequently, this ecosystem will provide differentiated services. In this sense, this research has as general objective to compare the supply of ecosystem services the mangrove in the Ponta do Tubarão State Sustainable Development Reserve, located on the northern coast of the Rio Grande Norte and in the mangrove of the Ceará-Mirim river, located on the eastern coast of Potiguar. For the identification of SEs, the key contribution was the theoretical contribution made by the CICES (Common International Standard for Ecosystem Services) classification system, which defines ecosystem services as the contributions that ecosystems make to the well- Human being. However, the research works only on provisioning services that include products and materials obtained from the ecosystem. In the first stage of the research, the initial listing of the possible ecosystem services associated with the mangrove of the study areas was carried out based on a bibliographical review and field work. The identification of services in the RDSEPT consists of an initial table with three classes of provision services: Wild plants, algae, where the mangrove leaf is used as a source of cattle feed. Wild animals, with the capture of crustaceans and shellfish for income generation and subsistence, and Fibers / materials of plants and animals for direct use or processing, with the use of wood for the use of firewood for fires, fences, boats and taipe houses. Already, in the mangrove of Ceará-Mirim, five classes of provision services were highlighted: Wildlife, with commercial fishing and subsistence; Fibers / materials of plants and animals for direct use or transformation, with the use of mangrove wood to produce spears, which are used by the ferrymen to row in the crossing of the river; Genetic materials of biota, where there are projects to recover areas with the use of propagules; And Herbal Resources with the production of charcoal for energy source. Therefore, from the initial identification it is possible to observe that the mangrove ecosystem plays an important role for the local communities that benefit directly and indirectly from the goods and services provided by the mangrove, taking away the sustenance of their respective families locally.
