SUMMARY:

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent deficits in communication and social interaction, as well as restricted and repetitive behaviors. In recent years, the number of students with ASD has grown substantially in mainstream classes. Despite the growing presence of this population in school, research suggests that education professionals find it difficult to deal with students with ASD, mainly due to the social-communicative limitations they present. Around a third of these students are unable to communicate through speech, making the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) resources essential. In the pre-school context, AAC has been adopted in a variety of routines, including storytelling dynamics. Studies suggest that many teachers are unaware of or do not feel prepared to use AAC in activities of this nature. In view this studies have shown the relevance of teacher training, whether initial or ongoing, for the inclusion of students with ASD to occur. One of the growing practices adopted in professional training programs is autoscopy, a self-confrontation procedure aimed at training reflective teachers. Based on this panorama, the general objective of the present study is to analyze the effects of the autoscopy procedure on the use of AAC in storytelling by the teacher of students with ASD. The specific objectives include: To analyze the use of the AAC by a teacher before and after an intervention program; To evaluate the effects of teacher training on the participation of the student with autism ; To analyze the teacher's conception of the use of the AAC during the intervention; To develop accessible books in alternative communication for use in storytelling. The study was carried out in a Municipal Early Childhood Education Center in the city of Natal. The participants included a teacher and 14 children in the class, including 3 children with ASD. This study was designed using an A-B within-subjects design. The study variables were organized taking into account the objectives set at each stage of the research. In the first stage, the independent variable (IV) was autoscopy, and the dependent variable (DV) was made up of a set of three teaching practices: (1) the use of questions, (2) communicative repertoire and (3) general behavior; In the second stage, the effects of the teacher's practices on the students' repertoire were evaluated. Thus, VI was configured as the teaching practices and VD as the children's level of engagement during storytelling. The research is currently at the stage of analyzing the data and writing the dissertation. The product of the professional master's degree in this research consists of the 4 books accessible in AAC that were produced for the research and have been finalized
