SUMMARY:

Preeclampsia (PE) consists of a multisystem alteration manifested during pregnancy with hypertension and proteinuria and constitutes one of the main causes of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality in the world. In pathophysiology, there is an increase not only in peripheral vascular resistance, but also in endothelial dysfunction. Thus, identifying risk groups for the development of PE through accessible and effective technology, especially in developing countries, may result in lower maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. The objective of this prospective study is to evaluate the accuracy of the combination of biochemical markers and Doppler ultrasound of the uterine arteries to predict preeclampsia in the second trimester of pregnancy. It is expected that the combination of biomarkers with ultrasonographic evaluation will allow predicting which pregnant women will have a higher risk of developing preeclampsia, allowing the adoption of effective preventive measures, aimed at reducing maternal and fetal complications proven to be associated with this disease.
