SUMMARY:

Pre-eclampsia is a multifactorial and multisystem disease, specific of pregnancy, which manifests in previously normotensive pregnant women after the 20th week of pregnancy. Due to systemic character, it is associated with situations of maternal, perinatal and neonatal severity. Hypovitaminosis D is related to preeclampsia, increases the risk of premature birth, low birth weight, metabolic bone disease, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, respiratory distress syndrome and neonatal sepsis, suggesting a protective role for this vitamin in the maternal-fetal interface. The aim of the study is to determine the association between 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations in pregnant women with preeclampsia and neonatal outcomes. So far, 7 pregnant women and their newborns have been included in the study, whose mothers aged over 18 years were previously diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and were followed up by the research group. As maternal profile data we had an average age of 30 years. All were undergoing prenatal care when they were hospitalized, with an average number of 7.7 consultations, but 60% were undergoing high-risk prenatal care. The pregnant women's body mass index classified them as obese and the average time of sun exposure was 3.2 hours. The mean gestational age at diagnosis of preeclampsia was 31.8 weeks. All newborns were born by cesarean delivery, 50% were female, gestational age and mean birth weight were 33.5 weeks and 1840g, respectively. Vitamin D dosages were performed, showing hypovitaminosis D, especially in pregnant women diagnosed with early preeclampsia.
