PAGES: 40
BIG AREA: Ciências da Saúde
AREA: Fisioterapia e Terapia Ocupacional
SUMMARY:

Postpartum fatigue is the decrease in physical and mental
capacity after childbirth associated with persistent lack of energy,
deficiencies in concentration and attention that are not easily relieved
by rest or sleep. It is observed that demographic factors, individual
history, prenatal and postnatal characteristics can influence the
experience of women and their families. The prevalence of postpartum
fatigue has not yet been studied extensively and is considered an
inevitable, temporary and frequently experienced symptom. This study
aims to evaluate the level of physical and mental fatigue of women in
the immediate and late postpartum period and to associate it with
sociodemographic and obstetric factors. Through a prospective
longitudinal study, 384 women will be investigated. The evaluations will
take place in the immediate postpartum period (between 24-48 hours)
and in the late postpartum period (in the 1st month and 3rd month after
delivery) and an evaluation form will be applied in the first evaluation
together with three questionnaires to assess fatigue. : Global Short
Form (GSF) self-reported global health Patient Outcome Measurement
Information System (PROMIS), multidimensional fatigue inventory (MFI),
and fatigue pictogram. The level of statistical significance adopted will
be p<0.05. To test for normality, the Kolmogorov Smirnov test will be
used. Descriptive statistics will be used with means, medians, standard
deviation, percentiles and frequencies depending on the normality
distribution of the data. The Spearman or Pearson correlation, the
unpaired t-Student or Mann-Whitney test and the multiple regression
can be used to relate, compare and associate the relationships between
the variables. It is expected that women undergoing cesarean delivery,

multiparous and with a high body mass index (BMI) present a higher
level of physical and mental fatigue when compared to women
undergoing vaginal delivery, nulliparous and with a normal BMI. It is
also expected that women who do not have family assistance in the
postpartum period have greater physical and mental fatigue when
compared to those who have assistance.
