Introduction: Pregnant women are particularly vulnerable to adverse events
(AEs), especially those at high risk. The occurrence of AEs is a problem for
patient safety and quality of health care. Despite its relevance, little is known
about the incidence and causes of AEs in this population. Objective: To
determine the incidence and factors associated with AEs in high-risk pregnant
women. Methods: Observational, longitudinal and prospective study with the
aim of evaluating the incidence of AEs in high-risk pregnant women, their
characteristics and factors related to their occurrence, involving 300 high-risk
pregnant women. The AEs will be evaluated for incidence and types,
according to The National Coordinating Council for Medication Error
Reporting and Prevention (NCCMERP) index. To determine the factors
associated with AEs, a multivariate model by logistic regression will be used.
Partial results: During the period of hospitalization, it was observed that
36.7% of the patients had one or more ADE, 82.6% had at least one ADR and
0.4% had an administration error. Ferrous sulfate (55, 20.68%) was the most
frequent, followed by NPH and Regular human insulin (41, 15.41% and 36,
13.53%), respectively. Partial conclusion: ADEs present in high-risk
pregnant women are usually mild in severity, but they occur in about 36.7% of
patients who had a drug-related problem. The occurrence of ADRs and
prescribing errors are more frequent compared to administration error.
