SUMMARY:

One area that has been developed and gained highlight in the oil industry is automation and well control, which has been used in artificial lift methods, especially in Sucker-Rod Pump (SRP), which is the most used artificial lift method in oil wells in Brazil and in the world. The enhancements applied to the SRP reflect the development and application of new strategies and control techniques to this system, which contribute to increase the efficiency of the production process. Then, the main focus of this work was to develop, apply and validate an appropriate control strategy for Sucker-Rod-Pump, using peak torque and submergence as parameters. The control action aims to increase the flowrate of operation, so that it even operates optimized the face of any internal or external disturbance to the system, with a goal to generating significant revenue. Thus, a Proportional Integral Derivative controller (PID) was used due to its versatile structure, adapting to requirements and work limitations. In this work was developed a mathematical and computational modeling to determine the torque curve on the reducer.

To implement the controlling was used the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programming language associated to its integrated development environment (IDE), which is present in Microsoft Excel. In order to validate the control strategy developed for the SRP, laboratory simulations were performed using virtual wells. It was observed that the developed strategy reached the proposed goals for which it was developed, that is, to make SRP work at peak performance within its operational limits and optimize the production flowrate.
