SUMMARY:

The concern with risk prevention and the promotion of safe environments, central themes in the field of Occupational Safety, has progressively been incorporated into the modern organizational mission and objectives. Within the scope of federal universities, the dissemination of information is essential to creating a safe environment for the academic community, and managers are responsible for ensuring that everyone is aware of the best practices and prepared to act appropriately in emergency situations and, in this sense, The analysis of information behavior is an important aspect in order to have a greater understanding of how the challenges inherent to security in Brazilian public higher education institutions are faced. Information behavior is related to the different ways in which the subject interacts with information, indicating how they appropriate, process and use it when necessary. Thus, this research aims to analyze the informational behavior of managers regarding security and preventive practices regarding the maintenance of collective protection equipment within the scope of the Center for Exact and Earth Sciences (CCET), at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. The investigation is characterized as a descriptive study in which the case study will be adopted as a technical procedure and will have as participants the technical-administrative employees who make up the CCET - UFRN staff who carry out activities related to security management. Data collection will take place through document analysis and application of a questionnaire with closed and open questions based on the phases of the Information Search Process - ISP model, by Carol Kuhlthau. The results will be discussed in light of Information Behavior theories, seeking to apply the knowledge obtained in the development of more effective information strategies, in order to optimize the decision- making process regarding the prevention and promotion of a security culture in contexts of work.
