SUMMARY:

In the 2000s, Ponta Negra, Natal/RN, the busiest urban beach in the capital of Rio Grande do Norte, implemented a tourist infrastructure with the aim of putting the beach on the international tourism route. Under the argument of urbanizing and modernizing the beach, the old stalls where dishes and snacks were prepared and served were removed. These businesses were run by women from Vila de Ponta Negra, an old fishing village. These changes had an intense impact on the village's economic activity. By analyzing working conditions, social practices and kinship relations, we seek to understand how the changes have taken place and what the impact of the removal of the stalls has been. The analysis is carried out through an ethnography of Vila de Ponta Negra, semi-structured interviews and the
interviews and recording the memories of the cooks. The text will be accompanied by audiovisual material produced from the field research. So far, it has been concluded that there has been a gentrification that has resulted in a disorganization of social relations previously based on kinship ties and forms of solidarity.
