SUMMARY:

As traditional peoples, quilombola communities deserve particular attention in terms of social and public policy, as historically the indigenous peoples. In this sense, the present work aims to study the changes promoted as a result of the partial land entitlement conquered by the quilombola community of Acauã, located in the Rio Grande do Norte state (Northeast region, Brazil) after the initial process of land tenure regularization of its lands, started in the year of 2004. This ethnographic study is necessary to understand and analyze the social, cultural, political and economic developments that occurred after receiving partial ownership of the quilombola territory of the referred community. Being of academic and social relevance, this study also seeks to understand the quilombola regularization process in the sense of strategies and maintenance of ethnic social identity from the struggle for land, especially those ones from the state of Rio Grande do Norte.
