SUMMARY:

This thesis takes has as object of analysis the construction of political and identity strategies of the people Tapuya Kariri located in Serra da Ibiapaba, in the cities of Carnaubal and São Benedito in the state of Ceará. Ethnography is aimed at understanding the multiple actions and practices that constitute "a luta", a central native category in the narratives of conflict and that articulates different aspects of the social life of this people, in a context of strong territorial expropriation. Thus, we aim to analyze "a luta" as an essential part of the ethnic-political movement, approached by the political practices of the Tapuya Kariri people. Therefore, we will address the process of historical constitution, formation, and legitimacy of leaders associated with territorial dynamics; we will identify the strategies of political and identity "luta", involving political movements and practices that permeate and instrumentalize institutions such as schools and health posts; we will contextualize the territorialization process and the conceptions of territoriality and territory; and, finally, we will analyze the agency of the “encantados” in human politics, understanding cosmopolitics, beyond cosmology, as a practice. The focus chosen seizes the Tapuya Kariri people inside a process of social and political organization, initially driven by "a luta" of Chico Pai Zé, which was based on unionism and, later, on the indigenous movement of Ceará and other mediators. Since 2006, when they organized themselves as an ethnic group, the Tapuya Kariri "retomaram" (reclaimed) their history, the school, disputed narratives of visibility with the State and occupy it, as well as articulated strategies with other indigenous peoples, built and experienced political forms and distribution of internal power. We focus on "a luta" undertaken by the Tapuya Kariri through the ethnographic observation of events, daily life, the management of public policies, the construction of political strategies, the observation of rituals. In addition, we used interviews that were linked to fieldwork and existing documents produced in the process of ethnographic work. "A luta", as an ethnographic and analytical category, gains relevance by allowing the analysis of the processes of resistance and political action by Tapuya Kariri in their multiple actions. It connects territory, education, health, and the “encantados” within the project of being Tapuya Kariri that “inverga, mas não quebra" in the various confrontations that took place in the face of the conflicts that have taken plaace over at least 16 years. Thus, the political investments of the leaders, highlighting the role of womwn and spirituality tthat connects “ciência” as knowledge and struggle, have enabled the people to advance in terms of public policies. The leaders become the main mediators of the relationship between the indigenous people, the State, the quilombola people, and the “encantados”. When legitimized by their peers, they develop internal strategies and insert themselves in political spaces of participation and dialogue, building alliances that enable them to play the political game in the various arenas of disputes in defense of collective interests.
