SUMMARY:

This dissertation aims to understand the difficulties of the implementation process of the Indigenous School Education (EEI) policy, based on the study of the Indigenous State School of Elementary and High School Professor Francisco Silva do Nascimento and the Municipal School Professora Alice Soares, of the indigenous community of Amarelão, municipality of João Câmara/RN, located in the Mendonça territory. An ethnography is being carried out with the participation and involvement of the author himself, who is indigenous, with the investigated community, presenting dialogues with indigenous leaders and teachers and other interlocutors that form the educational community to understand the changes and permanence of the implementation of the school policy indigenous, which takes place through a qualitative methodology. For this, it was necessary to analyze the Pedagogical Political Projects (PPP's) of the teaching units and the curricula and training of indigenous teachers. This was done to discover possible paths that could be traced during the implementation of the EEI. Furthermore, specific policies were formulated for indigenous school education and it was observed how the educational process would be affected by these policies. In this way, it has as partial results the advancement of public policies aimed at indigenous people, such as the creation of the Commission for the Elaboration of the Indigenous School Policy of Rio Grande do Norte, to guide the specific public policies of indigenous education in the state. And conventional schools that were transformed into indigenous teaching units, with the maintenance and promotion of the culture of indigenous populations. Therefore, it is necessary to question the relationship between culture, society and school. This is because indigenous school education differs significantly from traditional schooling, as the learning process of these peoples has to walk together to strengthen their cultural identity.
