SUMMARY:

This work investigates the foundation, construction and movement of the Zambêracatu Nation, the first and only maracatu in Rio Grande do Norte, analyzing the impacts and developments in the social representations of the black culture of the state and religions of African origin. Ethnography was carried out from the group's essays and main presentations, as well as through the participants' reports. Thus, the dissertation addresses the reasons, symbolic elements and strategies that make up the construction of a tradition in the contemporary world, in view of the new configurations of social relations and forms of belonging. In addition, I examine how the cultural performance developed by maracatu potiguar contributes and intervenes in social structures, changing perceptions and affective bonds in the city.
