SUMMARY:

This dissertation, titled “Indigenous Territory Mendonça: Indigenous women of Rio Grande do Norte in the fight for rights”, is the result of the interest in knowing the processes of organization and political struggle of women leaders of the Indigenous Territory Mendonça - João Câmara/RN, and how they reconcile this political action with their daily lives in their communities. Across RN, in the 14 (fourteen) indigenous communities, 9 (nine) of them are led by women. The fact that indigenous women are the majority in the indigenous movement of RN, and because I belong to the Mendonça indigenous territory, were motivating to carry out the research, with the aim of understanding how the processes of action of women in the indigenous movement are, from the their point of view on these processes. The main question of the research is to identify the trajectories and experiences of women indigenous leaders and their performance in the indigenous movement. It is not intended to research Rio Grande do Norte that specifically addresses the role of indigenous women in spaces of political struggle for rights. The present work intends to problematize the difficulties that these women face in their daily lives, even to think about the agencies moved by these women to reach the spaces of political organization. It is necessary to emphasize the role of these women in order to guarantee their survival and, above all, to be able to remain in the historically occupied territory. Ensuring the visibility and political struggle of indigenous women, from the perspective and orality of these women, is a way to strengthen, not only for women, but the communities and indigenous movement of Rio Grande do Norte.
