RESUMO:

This study is the result of masters research and focuses in the manner how knowledge related to work in the land are experienced in the context of a settlement of land reform. The settlement in question is the A.P. Palmares II, located in Macaíba/RN, in the metropolitan region of Natal. The struggle for land, migration, the memories about the life of families give us the ground where stepping in order to understand the territorialities built in seating space. Are also analysed the negotiations made with the normativity imposed by INCRA and environmental control institutions and also with material conditions left by the previous uses of the settlement land data. Following the way, we become to enter into the backyards, lots and residences of households, in the search for understanding knowledge passed down through generations in each family background, the techniques and practices specific to each family, the knowledge generated in each trajectory, the identities and projects involved with the life based in the work with the land and how these knowledge are updated in the new conditions of life. Finally are presented some experiences of women from the settlement, analyzing the gender relations, the multifunctionality and the invisibility of women farmers. Also bring a reflection of differentiated knowledge of men and women in the care of plants, animals and people and related to socialisation and differentiated inserts on agricultural life.
