RESUMO:

With the pet market reaching ever-increasing pofits and success, new services, new products and new professions in pet care are emerging and branching out, which indicates the importance of close relationships between humans and animals. In contemporary societies, also characterized by a more intense urban movement, vertical homes and smaller families, as well as aversion to mistreatment and unnecessary animal suffering, those implies a moral responsibility that justifies, among other things, the affection that the companion animal receives from humans. My research subject is the animal itself, and it is upon it that the argumentative interest falls on: its social life, the dilemmas that surround it, its constructed trajectories, needs, and preferences, as well as the construction of its subjectivity and the relations in which it is entangled in their online and offline contact networks. From this perspective, the idea of the animal apparently takes shape and is valued. It was from the digital environment that the field developed, expanding the possibilities of questioning what types of subjectivities are being locally built in the relationship between human and nonhuman. The online profile of the pet, will be analyzed in the chapters, bringing other issues to the fore, which interweaves subjectivity and consumption by questioning how the pet is acting in these networks of relationships, both online and offline; Thus identifying the tendency, in that context, not only to anthropomorphize and attribute kinship belonging to the animal, but also to attribute a kind of singular identity. So this text is about the processes that produce the social life of the companion animal, and how social strategies are generated and managed for its maintenance as a pet, and the construction processes of its subjectivities.
