RESUMO:
Cosplay (short abreviation of the english words “costume” and “play”, can be translated as “dress up in a costume” or “play with a costume”) is the term used to denominate the performative activity as dressing up as a character from the japanese pop culture (mangas, animes, tokusatsu, cartoons, comics and videogames), as also from another media such as television series and movies. This practice is related to the cosplayer’s (the performer of cosplay) identification to the character’s characteristics, for example their personality, physical constitution, sexual option, among others. Therefore, the act of perform in a cosplay brings up the subjective of the cosplayers and also activates theirs symbolic representations about their own individual being and compromises their personal background and life trajectories. As a result, this research pretends to clarify how cosplay can be understood as a practice of subjectivity representation and still the way of the cosplayers realize their own life projects.
